Bonus Room Remodel

The added useful square footage that this bonus room remodel provides this family will allow them to utilize the space for years. After all of the electrical and mechanical components were in place and connected we got right to work. We had top be sure to install blocking where necessary to provide stable substructure for drywall. The client wanted to re-configure the entry way to include a closed off hall closet and extended landing at the top of the stairs leading to this space. We framed out walls to create the closet and the new entryway. After all of the framing was in place we got right to insulation. We ventilation baffles in the ceiling to provide proper airflow above and around the room. After the baffles were installed we insulated the space with faced insulation batts to make sure there was a sufficient vapor barrier as well as proper R value for the room.

We quickly got to installing the drywall and that is when the room really started to come together. Once the drywall was installed we applied the necessary finish to the seams to create sooth surfaces. We matched the baseboard to what was in the rest of the house to create a seamless integration with the homes existing architectural elements. With the height of the knee walls and the pitch of the roof there was a space left behind the knee walls that was perfect for added storage. We framed out a small doorway and customized a door with air-tight seals to allow for easy access to the new storage area. At the top of the stair landing just before the entrance to the new bonus room the flooring was a hardwood laminate. We found matching flooring and installed it in the new closet and hallway. We also installed new doors at the entrance to the room, the new hall closet and the entryway to the utility room. Once all of that was complete we trimmed everything out and moved on to paint. After the paint was finished a medium mile carpet was installed throughout and this space was ready to be revealed to the home owners.
